Quiet Reflections

When the world falls silent, my inner voice grows clearer.
These reflections explore the insights found in that hush.
Feeling Grateful
I’m grateful for my hun, my partner, my mate.
For the life that we're living that feels pretty great.
I’m grateful I’m brave and I jump in feet first,
For laughter, for silliness, for quenching life’s thirst.
I’m grateful for strength when hard times hit,
They shaped who I am, every scar, every bit.
I’m grateful for home, for nature, for peace.
For work that feels steady and days that feel ease.
And my little family, my heart's little crew.
I’m grateful they’re close by and were stitched tight as glue.
Yes, I’m grateful
And I mean it too.
Forgive
When someone hurts you,
And the world feels cold,
Don’t let their wrong take root and hold.
Don’t dwell too long,
Don’t ruminate,
Resentment only fills the heart with hate.
The pain is real,
The wound runs deep,
But don’t let anger be yours to keep.
A hurt may whisper through the heart,
But forgiveness offers a gentler way,
And helps the heavy shadows fade away.
Cut the chain,
Let it go,
Forgiveness will free your heart to grow.
An Ode to 2020
Who would have thought on the first day of Jan.
That 2020 would not go according to plan!
It started off normally and we were doing alright;
No hint of what's to come and no virus in sight.
Then came news of a scary new bug
"On the other side of the world" we say, with a nonchalant shrug!
We continue to live our lives without much fear;
But the travellers return home and bring the bug here.
During Feb, world news breaks and it starts to sound bad
Then the virus claims it's first UK victim, oh no this is sad!
In early March news of more cases come through;
We listen with intent to the advice from the WHO.
Planning ahead, we prepare to work from home
A sense of team spirit, we're not in it alone!
But that's not strictly true as panic buying does start;
Bleach, soap and loo rolls, off the shelves do quickly depart.
The WHO have declared a global pandemic
New rules are now needed, which is academic!
National lockdown closes schools, and all public places;
Should we wear masks, or still show our faces?
"Stay home, Protect the NHS, Save lives" is the rallying cry
Our lives full of fear, we don’t want to die!
Social distancing and isolation soon become the norm;
Whilst a plan to help the nation, the powers do form.
Work from home if you can, but travel do not!
Furlough will provide for those who cannot
Safely make their way to their places of work,
A huge financial relief and a bit of a perk.
Life as we knew it, seems far away
"When will things be normal?" we hear people say;
Not yet, its too soon, staying home is your good deed
To tackle the virus, resilience we need.
We all do our bit to protect those we hold dear,
On Thursdays we salute our key workers with a clap and a cheer!
Spring gives to summer and the weather is warm;
Time spent outdoors in bubbles of six is the norm.
Boris announces the new "Exit Plan"
"Stay Alert, Protect the NHS", now we should work if we can!
In step two things will reopen, including the schools;
The tradesmen get ready and start prepping their tools.
The plan is to keep the "R-Number" down
If successful, we will all be able to soon hit the town!
By July the pubs will be allowed to serve drink;
You can have a haircut, your nails done, we are all now in sync.
The foreign office say we must not travel
We listen in despair as our holiday plans unravel!
But nature is kind and the weather hot and sunny;
So off to the beaches we travel and spends lots of money.
Summer gives way to the start of the fall
We've been doing this now for 6 months and all!
School bags are packed ready for the new term to start;
Universities reopen, some wonder "is this smart"?
Returning to the city is OK for the brave
But in the dark corners, we fear a second wave!
Now we wear a mask to cover our face;
And the new rallying cry is "Hands, Face and Space".
The scientists are busy, we are not out of the woods
Cases are rising across the northern neighbourhoods!
New rules are needed to get things under control;
Millions fear they are now facing the dole.
Boris declares a new system of tiers
None of this helps allay all our fears!
Life is hard and many struggle to cope;
It seems right now there is little hope.
Into lockdown we go, much to our despair
There are fears the economy is beyond repair!
We do as we told, for the greater good;
But the virus rips through all neighbourhoods.
But then a Boris address, “oh what can this mean”?
Hurrah, it seems there is a successful vaccine!
The talent and skill our scientists possess;
Will help us all get out of this mess.
The drug is approved with no time to waste
The first patient ever is vaccinated in haste!
This momentous occasion gives rise to great cheer;
Even Matt Hancock sheds a crocodile tear!
So, as Christmas approaches, a new social bubble
Follow the rules and stay out of trouble!
We have come so far, let it not go to waste;
You don't want to be contacted by "Track and Trace".
On New Year’s Eve, when we hear Big Ben ring
Remember, no one can tell what the new year will bring!
Just know that this year took us to a very hard place;
But just around the corner, a plan to save the human race!
I raise my glass and propose a toast
To those who I care for and admire the most!
In 2020 we wished simply to survive;
In 2021 I wish we all thrive.
A new road ahead, 2020 certainly won’t be missed;
And if we are lucky, we can go pub and get p*ssed!
